Some things were just made to be paired together. This amazingly well-crafted gourmet popcorn was a great snack to pair with wine. J. Drizzle has an array of over 40 unique flavors like Champagne and Strawberries, Chipotle BBQ, Banana Cream Pie, Salted Caramel Chocolate Drizzle, Zesty Ranch, and Milk & Cookies – just to name a few. We had the delight of trying out Dark Chocolate Chile, Key Lime Pie, Garlic Parmesan, and White Cheddar.
Something that really impressed us about this popcorn was the quality. All-natural ingredients and no preservatives. It was nice to see such a short list of quality ingredients on the back of the bags. This was some good stuff! We regret that we did not take more close up pictures of the popcorn itself as you can really see the quality and beauty of this popcorn through the pictures. For more info on J. Below you can see what wines we paired with each popcorn flavor.
White Cheddar and Garlic Parmesan:
2009 Smoking Loon Pinot Noir
Although White Cheddar and Garlic Parmesan are fairly common popcorn flavors there was something about these two that were pretty distinctive. The White Cheddar was really savory and was not overly seasoned like so many other flavored popcorn brands we have tried. The subtlety of the cheddar was just right and did not over-power the natural salty and corn flavors of the popcorn. The Garlic Parmesan tasted of really fresh garlic and was balanced nicely with the Parmesan. We tried both the White Cheddar and Garlic Parmesan with this 2009 Smoking Loon Pinot Noir. Would love to try the White Cheddar again with perhaps a Cabernet because of the popcorn’s savory nature but they went great with this mild Pinot.
Key Lime Pie: 2010 Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling
Although we find it difficult picking favorites, we would have to say the Key Lime Pie popcorn took the prize! This was a sweet and slightly tangy dessert popcorn that almost reminded us of eating Fruit Loop cereal. We loved that you can definitely pick up on the zesty lime flavors in this popcorn. It was bursting with fruity flavors and was the perfect complement to this Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling.
Dark Chocolate Chile: 2007 Eberle Zinfandel
Talk about unique! This flavor was truly something special. This was definitely a dark chocolate treat that surprises you at the end with a zing of Cheyenne Pepper. If you enjoy a little spice you will enjoy this very much. It was not overly spicy but if you have a weak palate and are sensitive to any spice perhaps this one would be a bit much for you. We really enjoyed it though. The popcorn itself is a beautiful dark brown with a peach color (the chile) drizzled over it. This 2007 Eberle Zinfandel helped tame the spice a bit and actually tasted perfect together.
